Beliefs and prejudices
The scientific method is directed towards testing hypotheses under scientifically controlled conditions as possible. This feature is present in certain fields, such as biology, but difficult in others, such as astronomy.
Experimental control and reproducibility reduce the effects of potentially harmful conditions and reduce personal biases to some degree. For example, preconceived beliefs may alter the interpretation of results, as can confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is an intuition that causes a person holding a belief to see things in a way that reinforces their belief, even if another observer disagrees with it (or in other words, individuals tend to notice what they expect to notice).
A historical example of this is the belief that a horse flies and flattens its feet when its feet are not all touching the ground during a sprint, to the point where the condition is depicted on the paintings of its supporters. But the early images of motion and stillness, taken by Edward Muybridge, demonstrated the invalidity of this belief, and that the feet all come together instead.
The fallacy of invoking modernity is also an important human bias, as it plays a role in favoring surprising new phrases (see Advocating for modernity) and may lead to the search for evidence that supports the validity of the new. Untested beliefs may be well held, and actions built upon, through less assertive intuitions.
Types of curricula
Research methods are classified into:
The deductive or deductive method: in which the mind connects between the introductions and the results, and between things and their reasons on the basis of logic and mental reflection.
The inductive approach: It represents the opposite of its predecessor, as it starts with the particles to reach general laws, and it depends on verification by systematic observation subject to experimentation and control of various variables.
Reconstructive Approach: This approach relies on the process of recovering what was in the past to verify the course of events, and to analyze the forces and problems that shaped the present.
Research methods can be classified in terms of procedural method to:
Descriptive method.
Survey method.
Case study curriculum.
Experimental method.
Historical method.
Philosophical method.
Scientific research depends on the application of the scientific method that harnesses curiosity. This research provides scientific information and theories to explain the nature and characteristics of the world. It makes practical applications possible. Scientific research is funded by the public authorities, through charitable organizations and private groups, including many companies. Scientific research can be divided into different classifications according to the academic and applied disciplines. Scientific research is the widely used criterion for judging the standing of an academic institution, such as business schools, but some argue that such is an inaccurate assessment of the institution, because research quality does not say about the quality of education (and these do not necessarily exactly match).
